Our Progress
UCAN is very pleased to announce our 41,000th spay/neuter surgery since the opening of the clinic just five years ago.
Thank you to our friends for "spreading the word" about the vital need for pet spay/neuter and UCAN. Our high-quality, low-cost clinic's numbers equate to thousands of unwanted dogs and cats not burdening the area's already-overcrowded shelters and rescue groups, not to mention the number of homeless animals and euthanasias prevented.
Meet the lucky pet who is number 41,000. Bolo is a Cane Corso, an Italian breed descended from an ancient Roman times. He was a bit concerned about things when this picture was snapped - he was really sweet, though. |

UCAN Milestone & World Spay Day |
|
A Purrfect Way to Celebrate World Spay Day
UCAN 'fixes" our 40,000th animal since opening just under 5 years ago.
Meet Sonic and her happy human companion. She was our 40,000th spay/neuter surgery. What a great way to celebrate World Spay Day.
World Spay Day is a day to shine a spotlight on spay/neuter as a proven means of saving the lives of companion animals, feral cats, and street dogs who might otherwise be put down in a shelter or killed on the street. Every year, millions of companion animals suffer and die in the United States and around the world.
Nationwide, an estimated 6-8 million homeless kittens, puppies, cats, and dogs enter animal shelters every year. About half of these animals are adopted. Tragically, the other half are put down. The majority of animals euthanized are healthy, sweet pets who would have made great companions.
The message of World Spay Day is that by spaying or neutering your pet, by supporting spay/neuter efforts in the United States and abroad, and by informing others of the importance of spay/neuter, you become an important part of the solution! |

Help for Northern Kentucky Residents |
|
In cooperation with the Northern Kentucky Friends of the Shelter (FOTS), UCAN is now offering bi-weekly transports from the Boone County Animal Shelter.
This joint program allows qualifying Northern Kentucky residents to pay only $15 for a dog spay or neuter and only $10 for a cat spay or neuter. Both prices include a free rabies vaccine. The remaining cost is generously covered by FOTS. This program will continue until further notice.
Pets are picked up for surgery on Thursday mornings and returned the next day. There is no charge for the transport service.
For Northern Kentucky residents only.

Pets in Need Grant Renewal |
|
The Kenneth A. Scott Charitable Trust, a KeyBank trust, has made a one-year renewal grant of $25,000 to help continue year three of our Pets in Need program which is a partnership between UCAN and the Freestore Foodbank. This foundation's initial grant helped establish the Pets in Need program in 2010 and also supported the second year of the program. Their continuing support is most appreciated.
Pets in Need targets pets from households in the most under served areas of Greater Cincinnati; it provides basic veterinary care in addition to discounted spay/neuter surgeries for companion cats and dogs whose owners could not otherwise afford veterinary care. Pets in Need clinics are generally held twice per month.
